We’ve had lots of snow here recently, and whilst it’s tempting to stay inside, you’ll make a big difference to how your garden copes with winter if you carry out soem first-aid on it.
I’ve wrapped up the tree fern in my garden to help it survive the freezing temperatures. Firstly I gave it a coat of bubble-wrap, but frankly this looks quite ugly and we’ve got certain standards to keep up, so it’s been given a top-coat of Hessian and resembles a column of 70’s Habitat wallpaper …. giving it a rather pleasing retro look.
It’s probably too late to wrap up the plants in your garden if you haven’t already done so, but as the freezing weather continues and more snow is on the way, here’s some things that you can do:
° Knock snow off the branches of trees and shrubs before the weight damages them.
° Put out food and water for birds, we want keep them happy so they’ll help eat up insect pests next year …. and because it’s a kind thing to do.
° Avoid walking on frozen grass and damaging it.
° Take the opportunity to stay inside by the fire and plan how you want your garden to look next year. Find inspiration from style, interior and design magazines, books and websites, as well as gardening ones.
