Have you noticed how much the small details matter just as much as the ‘big idea’ when it comes to garden design?
Visiting gardens I like to look out for these details, here’s one I came across last year and it’s a real inspiration if you want paving that’s a bit more interesting than the usual lay-out.
These details give such character and interest to a garden.
The dark ironstone used here, occurs locally in Surrey, it was found in the garden and collected up. We’d call it recycling now, but it’s just what people would have done years ago because it makes perfect sense.
Small sections of pattern like this can break-up large areas of paving and can be used in other parts of the garden to link the space together.
You could easily re-interpret this idea in your own garden.
