It’s quite a big claim I know and it probably depends on your criteria.
Sarcococca ticks lots of boxes, a small to medium evergreen shrub that needs little attention and produces super fragrant white flowers in winter, just when you need them.
It has narrow, elegant leaves and tiny spidery flowers.
Pick a few stems to bring indoors and they’ll fill the room with their sweet, honey scent.
Sarcococca digyna ( Winter Box)
Vital statistics:
2m wide x 1.5m tall.
Happiest in a reasonably rich soil in a shady part of the garden.
Plant it in a place where you can enjoy it’s perfume every day in January. It’ll remind you that the garden is waking up and how much there is to look forward to.
