Meet Nectaroscordum siculum, a classy member of that attractive family, the Alliums.
The tissue covered flower buds gradually open in early summer to reveal bell-shaped flowers that are pink tinged with moss-green and cream.
They take a languid approach to opening and at each stage look perfectly lovely.
Their final flourish when the flower is over, is for each flower to develop a seed-head that points upwards like a group of little pointed pixie hats.
plant: the bulbs 15cm deep, 20cm apart in the autumn in moist, but very well-drained soil.
height: 80cm-1 metre tall
position: sun, they’ll tolerate a little light shade.
Order them now for delivery in September.
You can buy them here.
Happy gardening, Jill
