Design is important to all of us, we choose products that appeal to us not only because they’re functional, but also because they look good, are nice to use and make us feel good about ourselves.
If you don’t enjoy being in your garden it’s probably because it isn’t an attractive place to spend time in.
A well designed garden draws you in, it’s an attractive place to spend time in, it looks good and makes you feel happy and relaxed. It isn’t a coincidence that horticultural therapy works so well, we love to be surrounded by natural greenery, scented flowers and colour.
A garden isn’t just a functional space, we don’t use a product just because it works reasonably well and does the job. The genius of a designer like Steve Jobs is that he made us want to buy the iPad ……. even though we weren’t exactly sure why we liked it or how we’d use it. His design enhanced an ordinary product and made it a beautiful object to use and enjoy … that’s what great design does.
Somewhere to look forward to spending time in, enjoying the heady perfume of a rose in summer, glorious autumn tints and the promise of a new season when the first snowdrops poke their snouts through the ground at the end of a long winter.
What do you like best about your garden?
