I’m all for enjoying the garden for as much of the year as possible, but it’s easy to retreat inside on these chilly autumn days.
Given that it’s going to be cold for a big part of the year I’m proposing that you find a place in your garden for a brazier.
I like the idea of sitting round one these toasting marshmallows.
The heat will scorch the lawn, so they need to be on a hard surface, and of course you need to take all the precautions that you would with any fire, especially if there are children around.
There are lots of different types. I rather like this large shallow one, but you could go for a smarter black one if that’s the style of your garden. Either way they’re much more efficient than the ubiquitous gas patio heater that seems to mostly heat the air above your garden.
You could go the whole hog and build an outdoor fireplace to create an outdoor room.
If you have some kind of heating you’ll be able to enjoy being out in your garden on chilly summer evenings too. You could of course just put another jumper on, but a fire is such a welcoming site that you’ll definately be tempted to use your garden more.
