A world famous garden just 30 mins drive away, you’d think I’d be there every couple of weeks, but a couple of months can go by without a visit.
But yesterday was a visiting day & the weather was perfect … crisp & cold with bright sunshine.
I started off at the herbaceous borders, they’re a riot of colour in high summer. We’re on the cusp of winter now, when plants are more sober, But the sun creeping over Battleston Hill lit up the grasses beautifully, making them sparkle & shimmer, in a way that is just as good as summer… just different.
I was reminded to plant grasses where they catch the morning or evening sun for full impact.
The rose garden was a nice surprise, I hadn’t expected how beautiful these frosted flowers would look.
Huge coloured lights were being installed, ready for ‘Christmas Glow’. You can see one in the picture below looking like a giant pink lily. The winter illuminations are switched on 1st December until 2nd January.
There are 3 cafes open in winter, so I warmed up with coffee & cake & managed a quick browse of the shop without buying anything.
