Garden ideas from the Hampton Court Flower Show.

June 30, 2015 By Jill Anderson 6 Comments

I’m always excited to visit this show, it was press day yesterday, and it all looked beautiful with a clear blue sky and the sun glittering on the water.

The backdrop of Hampton Court Palace, a huge marquee full of plants for sale, another marquee full of divine roses and a clutch of show gardens is a perfect combination.

The place is teeming with celebrities on press day, one of my favourites, the charming Raymond Blanc was there.

I’ve got a few posts about the Show lined up for this week, starting with this one featuring show gardens full of ideas and inspiration.

The Squires Garden Centre show garden managed to fit two seating areas, a meadow and delicious planting into a small space:

purple salvia, pink echinacea, yellow achillea and pale blue scabious flowers.

Clipped box and wafting plants are always a good combination.

The Wellbeing for Women show garden featured a section of green wall, a water bowl and a bench curving round the circular paving.

The plant colours were lovely together and it’s good to see three trees in a small garden, silver birch are a good choice because of their light canopy.

The Healing Urban Garden shared aspects of the Wellbeing of Woman Garden next door, with water-bowls, purple flowers and camomile between the paving, but had a more contemporary style.

The City Twitchers garden was a small urban space designed to encourage and protect garden birds.

I liked the cool, green and white theme, would be lovely on a hot, sunny day.

there were a whole array of smart looking bird feeders and containers for nesting material and cute bird boxes with tiny green roofs.

These wonderful autumn colours won’t be around for much longer. But that’s ok, because now is what matters, & their fleeting beauty makes them even more precious.
It’s easy to see how being among trees & nature is so beneficial for our health & wellbeing.

One little advantage of lockdown is walking so much more, rather than using the car. Though it shouldn’t have taken something as momentous as this, for me to change bad habits 🙁

I’ve thought long & hard about how to view the tumult in the world we’re living in now.
The only thing that works for me, is to choose hope.

It’s a tall order, but avoiding mainstream news & speculation helps avoid the anxiety, that’s often waiting in the wings.

One day soon there’ll be grandchildren clambering over this again.
