I was going to write a post about gardening jobs for August, but that’ll have to wait for a few days because we visited a fabulous garden on our way to Cornwall at the weekend, and I wanted to show it to you.
I’ve had this garden in Somerset in my sights for ages, part of the Hauser and Wirth complex of lovely buildings that includes an art gallery and bar and grill, it’s designed by Piet Oudolf and is full of his trademark big swathes of perennials and grasses. The dreamy drifts of plants not only look fabulous, they’re also designed to support bees, birds and butterflies.
The building at the end of the garden has views out over the countryside, wouldn’t it be a great place for a party.
The Grill does very good food and has hand drawn garden plans up on the wall, along with other art work.
See more of Piet Oudolfs planting designs here for The Highline in New York.
I’ll post about what to do in the garden in August on Thursday, enjoy the rest of the week.

Looks like you went at exactly the right time, Jill. I always find Piet Oudolf’s planting schemes heart-stoppingly beautiful (seen at Wisley and at Bury Court) so I really should put this garden visit on my agenda. A brilliant start to your trip to Cornwall – hope the weather is kind for your holiday.
Heart-stoppingly beautiful is the perfect description! Yes put it on your list, it’s an interesting place, and thank you, yes we had a great time, we were at The Port Eliot Festival which is always fabulous.
