A narrow, London garden transformed into a contemporary outdoor space with tranquil, secluded areas – a precious commodity in a busy city. Creative use of space provides three distinct seating areas, a narrow pool of water and lush planting that provides shape, texture, colour and seclusion.
- To create a modern outdoor space to reflect the stunning contemporary design of the house interior.
- Planting with interesting shapes and lots of colour and integrating some existing mature plants and a nice slab of yew hedge.
- Incorporation of the owner’s sculpture pieces.
The design of this compact London garden creates different spaces, each flowing seamlessly into the next. A path leads through the area near the house past lush planting and down into a sunken area. This is a sheltered place to sit, next to a long narrow pool and surrounded by even more abundant planting that can be viewed at eye-level. The third area is a passage screened with strong planting shapes leading through to a hidden area at the end of the garden. This final area has been enhanced by plants with striking architectural shapes, it’s a relaxing place to entertain friends.
